Residential Road Resurfacing – Profile and Reinstate for Topcoat Asphalt

JVJ Civil & Asphalt was engaged by Topcoat Asphalt to deliver a full profile and reinstate program in a council‑managed residential area. Across 2,600 m², we reshaped the existing pavement and machine‑laid 250 tonnes of AC10 hot mix to a compacted 40 mm thickness. Works were sequenced to council specifications and completed within a single day. Precision profiling softened the crown and improved crossfall and drainage, while traffic management and resident liaison maintained safe access. Quality checks verified smoothness, density and finish across the program area.

The Challenge

The site was a live residential street network under council control, so safety, access and communication were critical. The programme allowed only one day to complete profiling and laydown at scale, with weather risk in the forecast. The surface needed targeted levelling to soften the crown and correct crossfall for drainage without over‑milling. Traffic and pedestrian movement had to be managed around plant and haul trucks. Compliance with council inspection points, documentation and finish tolerances was mandatory while keeping residents informed and minimising disruption.

The Solution

JVJ deployed a P&R crew and milling plant to profile 2,600 m², targeting localised high points and transitions to improve crossfall and drainage. Set‑out and level control guided precise milling depths to avoid over‑cutting services and tie‑ins. Our paving crew machine‑laid 250 tonnes of AC10 to a compacted 40 mm thickness, using rolling patterns to achieve density and ride quality. Traffic control maintained safe movements and staged resident access. Quality assurance covered pre‑pave checks, temperature control, mat smoothness, jointing and compaction, with council hold points cleared before progressive handback.

The Result

The resurfacing was delivered within the one‑day timeframe and to council specification. Profiling removed irregularities, softened the road crown and improved crossfall, enhancing drainage performance. Laydown achieved target density and a smooth riding surface across the full 2,600 m², with neat tie‑ins at driveways and intersections. Resident access was maintained safely, and complaints were minimised through early notice and on‑day coordination. Council inspections were passed without rework. The outcome reinforced JVJ’s ability to deliver high‑volume, tight‑turnaround P&R works, strengthening our ongoing partnership with Topcoat Asphalt on time‑critical road packages.
